Meet the cattle and the family behind Bontreger Cattle Co.
Visit the GalleryEvery farm has a story. Ours started with a childhood rooted in agriculture, a dream that stayed with me, and one mama cow and her heifer calf.
I’m Aaron, and I grew up on a small dairy farm where my family also raised certified organic vegetables. My dad supplied Whole Foods and Martin’s Supermarket, and growing up around that work taught me that farming carries a responsibility. People are trusting you with the food they bring home to their families. That’s something worth taking pride in.
Rebekah grew up on a small farm with a few cows, too. We both know the work that comes with farm life, but we also know how much it gives back—the memories, the lessons, and the satisfaction of caring for something and watching it grow.
In my early twenties, I had a dream of someday raising beef on my own farm and selling directly to families. I wanted to build relationships where customers knew who raised their food, how it was cared for, and where it came from. Knowing the source of our food matters, and I wanted to be someone people could trust.
In 2022, we took that first step. Bontreger Cattle Co. began with just one mama cow and her heifer calf.
Today, we have 12 mama cows, with a goal of gradually growing to 30. We’re raising our steers for beef and keeping heifers to build the herd. It takes patience, and there’s plenty of work ahead, but seeing that little beginning grow into the farm we once dreamed about means a lot.
With our kids growing like weeds, this dream has become about their future, too. We want to pass along the values we grew up with: working hard, caring for animals, raising our own food, and understanding that worthwhile things take time and effort.
To us, there’s no better place to raise kids than on a farm. There are chores to do and responsibilities to learn—but there’s also room to run, get muddy, use their imaginations, and just be kids. We hope the lessons and memories they gather here stay with them wherever life takes them.
We’re proud to raise grass-fed, grass-finished beef naturally, without growth hormones or antibiotics in our beef steers. And we’re grateful for the opportunity to share that beef with other families alongside our own.
We’re still growing, still learning, and still working toward that dream. Every customer who trusts us, every friend who recommends us, and every person who follows along becomes a small part of this story.
Thank you for being here and supporting what we’re building.
